"Iceland. Greenland and the Faroes Islands Cruise, 15 Days
Day 1 Thursday 7 August Liverpool
Join the ship for a 4pm sailing
Day 2 Greenock
From Greenock you have the opportunity to visit one of Britain’s great cities, Glasgow. Look out for the inimitable and instantly recognisable work of one of Scotland’s best known Art Nouveau designers, Charles Rennie Mackintosh, on attractions such as The Lighthouse and the Glasgow School of Art. Glasgow also offers a fabulous selection of shops and cafes.
Day 3 Cruising
Day 4 Torshavn (Faroe Islands)
Situated between Iceland and Norway, yet belonging to Denmark, the eighteen Faroe Islands offer rugged, mountainous scenery dotted with small fishing and farming communities. Torshavn is one of the world’s smallest capitals and shore excursions give you the chance to visit a typical Faroese village or the farming community of Saksun with the possibility of seeing some of the island’s prolific birdlife.
Day 5 Cruising
Day 6 Reykjavik
Iceland’s colourful capital city enjoys a beautiful natural setting between the cold waters of the northern Atlantic and Iceland’s eerie volcanic landscape. During our stay here we can choose from a wide range of fascinating shore excursions. Our Golden Circle tour introduces some of Iceland’s famous spectacular volcanic features, such as hot springs and natural geysers. You can also visit the Blue Lagoon to bathe in the warm mineral-rich waters. The city itself offers plenty of attractions, not least The Pearl, a rotating restaurant and viewing deck atop four huge water storage tanks, offering superb views over the city.
Day 7 Reykjavik
Day 8 Cruising
Day 9 Transit - Prins Christiansund
Greenland’s Prins Christiansund Fjord boasts spectacular glaciers, majestic ice floes and plunging waterfalls created by the terrific force of the Greenland icecap. Make sure you’re on deck to enjoy some magnificent views.
Day 10 Narsaq *
Narsaq is situated at the foot of Qaaqarsuaq, the ‘Big Mountain’, and surrounded by green valleys. With a direct view of the inland icecap and icebergs floating in the fjords just outside the town, the valley and mountains surrounding Narsaq form a stunning contrast to the Arctic landscapes that are so typical of Greenland. Our excellent excursions include a boat trip amongst the icebergs. You can also visit the Viking ruins of Dyrnaes farm for an insight into the Norse period in Greenland and the history of both Vikings and Inuits. Narsaq itself has a fascinating museum, Greenland’s oldest furriers and a beautiful church.
Day 11 Nuuk
The largest and oldest city in Greenland, Nuuk is situated at the mouth of one of the world’s most spectacular fjords. If we’re lucky, we may even see whales on our approach. We offer an optional whale watching expedition among the islands to the west of Nuuk. The expedition also allows us to see some of the interesting local birdlife and, of course, offers a wonderful view of the stunning Arctic landscape.
Day 12 Cruising - Eqip Glacier
As we cruise past the Eqip Glacier, we may be fortunate enough to see an iceberg calve before our eyes, creating a thunderous rumble as the ice collapses into the water. Watch out for seals and whales as we cruise the deep blue waters.
Day 13 Ilulissat, Disko Bay *
Ilulissat means ‘icebergs’ in Greenlandic. The town is situated at the mouth of a 25-mile-long icefjord, filled with enormous icebergs, created by the most productive glacier in the northern hemisphere. Whilst here, we have the chance to travel to the mouth of the icefjord on board small boats for a close-up view of the icebergs’ vivid colours. Revel in the silence and enjoy a drink ‘on the rocks’. For a dramatic view of the icefjord, take an optional helicopter ride to the icecap or join the walking tour around the town, a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Day 14 Sisimiut
Greenland’s second largest town, Sisimiut, boasts the country’s only outdoor swimming pool as well as its oldest wooden church. During our stay we can journey into the past of the Inuits with a visit to the local museum, where you will enjoy a kayak demonstration. We also have the chance to hear a traditional Greenlandic choir in a local church.
Day 15 Thursday 21 August Kangerlussuaq
